Community Volunteers Needed in 2011

If you want to make a difference in your community and can spare 2 hours a month then get involved with the Community Visitors Scheme. A nationally government funded program helps connect community visitors with residents living in aged care homes who are socially isolated or lonely.  You can make a difference just being there!

Exciting Programs in 2011 require Mentors!

We require mentors for our Leadership Programs.  The program structure is a series of five weekly meetings where mentors participate as positive role models and table facilitators.  The leadership workshops conclude with a community service event chosen and organised by the participants that further define and building on the skills and concepts explored over the whole program. The aims of the program are to help young women turn feelings of hopelessness and despair into feelings of control and self-confidence, and to increase knowledge of opportunities open to them.

YWCA Brisbane welcomes Paid Parental Leave announcement

YWCA Brisbane supports the recent government announcement that it will introduce 18 weeks of Paid Parental Leave in 2011.  We believe this scheme will support families in need at a critical time in their lives, and relieve some of the financial burdens and stresses that occurs when having a new baby.  YWCA Australia has been a strong advocate for PPL and have lobbied extensively for this scheme.  Please click here to read the media release circulated by YWCA Australia with their response to the announcement.

New English Class Schedule
