Helping young people access information and mentors

Speak is a new program for YWCA Brisbane. It is a series of six weekly sessions continued throughout the year that are open to all young people free of charge. The sessions incorporate mentors, information, discussions, experts and referrals to assist with problems or self-identified issues young people face. The session topics include issues for young people who are homeless, young women at risk of violence, issues for refugees living in Brisbane, and parenting skills for young parents as well as other topics identified by ongoing focus groups.

With a café style mentoring structure, speakers, experts and mentors engage in large and small discussions with young people to assist in addressing identified issues and needs in a supportive and positive environment.  Young people are able to engage with people who care, and people who have the knowledge to help develop coping strategies and necessary skills to overcome obstacles.

As a supplement to the Speak program, we offer classes in communitcations skills.  Please click here to see current schedule.
